Women Avengers - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Noomi Rapace, see pictures below, in character as Lisbeth Salander in "Män som hatar kvinnor (2009)"(The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) joins the long line of Women Avengers portrayed on film [remember Susan Sarandon in "Thelma and Louise" and Ellen Page in "Hard Candy" to name just a few]. According to cinemag.gr and Despina Pavlaki the protagonist is a "treasure" and "she permeats the whole film with an anarchic sexuality that you never imagined she possesses". The film opens in Greece at cinemas on October 1st, and it's the first of a trilogy.

If you watch this Swedish film... you'll probably be glad that there will be more Lisbeth Salander adventures to come [Swedish title: "Luftslottet som sprängdes" (2009) ... aka "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" and "Flickan som lekte med elden" (2009)... aka "The Girl Who Played with Fire" (International English title)]

I did it. I finally watched the first 2 movies. I've heard about "Millenium" as it's called in France, I knew the novels had a huge success, but I never read them, and I didn't even know what it was about. When the movie get out, I thought about watching it, but then I forgot =))
And your main picture intrigued me, so I searched what was the reference, and I found that it was the English name for the movie.

I really like Lisbeth's character. Her strenght after all she's been through, her inability to trust people, and even if she's twisted, it's hard not to like her.
Now I'm waiting for the last part, it should be out in the next few months.

Good! I'm glad my blog provoked you to watch the films. I like the first film more than the second one. The books are decent crime stories, but you can't find much of literature as an art there. Right now I am reading the third one, "the girl who kicked the hornet's nest". I might write more about it when the millenium trilogy's bound up in the future.

I kinda preferred the story of the second movie, even though there's no contact between Lisbeth and Michael. And we learn more about her past, and why she is the way she is. I don't think I'll read the books now that I've seen the movies. I'm a little lazy, I admit it. :)

I wouldn't suggest the books as essential reading- unless, of course, you are a hardcore fan of the Salander character.

Personally I think that cinematically the 1st film is far better directed and produced. In terms of the story, I don't know- I am kinda mixed up right now, between the books and the films. Larsson was too tedious with details. For example, he lists every single item Salander bought from IKEA in order to furnish her condo in the second film!!!! It's like he copied half the catalogue.

So, the books tend to be kinda boring at some points, but they also contain a helluva lot more on the characters and their backgrounds. Also, Larsson does well with suspense despite the tediousness of his writing.

Right now, I've got a jam plot in my head :D I think I definitely need to finish the 3rd book, and then watch the films all over again to comment on the differences and what's what.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of her, so I don't think I'll read the books just for fun. I already got a few books of my own to read. Yeah, I happen to read some books a year, but not too much!
I think that the story of the first one was more difficult to understand, maybe it's because the english subtitles weren't that great.
I read that the producer wanted to changed several aspects in the movies, but Rapace refused to stick to the true personnality of Lisbeth.

I wanted to do what you're gonna do, read/watch, and see the differences, with Harry Potter, (not the same litterature, I know ^^) but I gave up the idea, too much to do.
Enjoy your reading! :D
